Second, primary care physicians will be available to take on these new patients. Third, the provision of health insurance will reduce the ultimate subsequent hospitalizations and emergency room visits of the previously uninsured. Fourth, that the cost of care for these individuals will decline and therefore the “cost curve will be bent downward”. All of this is wrong.

Lawmakers from both parties have called on the Obama administration to speak out against China's refusal to let its currency appreciate.

China has kept its yuan about 6.83 to the dollar for almost two years. Many U.S. economists say the currency is undervalued by as much as 40 percent.

Keeping its currency low makes China's goods cheaper on the world market and more likely to be purchased by other countries. But, analysts say, it hurts American businesses, which cannot then compete.

“Immediately after receiving the final reconciliation bill language, Senate Republican staff was ready and willing to meet with Senate Democratic staff and the Senate Parliamentarian to discuss the fact that the House reconciliation bill may be brought down by the 310(g) point of order in the Senate. Senate Democrats are mysteriously unavailable until after the House votes on the health care bill tonight. The Senate Democrats appear to be pushing off this meeting so that House Democrats will remain in the dark about what is likely to happen to the reconciliation bill on which many have staked their careers in Congress. House Democrats should be alarmed by this latest development, since the survival of the reconciliation bill is clearly at risk in the Senate.”

If Republicans can get the parliamentarian to agree with them even once, whatever ultimately passes the Senate will have to go back to the House.
And Democrats in the House quietly admit that its very likely they will have to vote again on the reconciliation fixes at some point down the road.

The bill's passage was incumbent upon pro-life Democrats, who were appeased by Obama's pledge to issue an executive order clarifying abortion funding language.

I think I knew that this thing was going to pass. I just held out hoping that there were enough courageous Dem's to keep this from passing. When Stupak sold out and settled for a pledged from President Obama, that was the end.

I don't know where this will take our nation, I can only assume that it will be down a road that no one want's to go down. The only hope left from what I can tell is that the Attorney General's from the state will take this to the Supreme Court and get a ruling that this bill is indeed unconstitutional.

But either way, this needs to serve everyone who did not want this with a warning. Our voices need to be heard loud and clear from now until the mid-term elections in November. And the reason is so that these Congressmen and women need to know that there only job is to represent the people that elected them to office and that they don't serve the Democratic Party they are there to serve the American people......Bill

Employers, too, would have a new responsibility: to offer coverage or face penalties of $2,000 per worker. By cutting more than $500 billion from Medicare over the next decade and raising taxes on the well-insured and high-earners, the package would trim deficits by $138 billion over the next decade and by around $1.2 trillion in the decade thereafter, the CBO said.

Republicans questioned assertions of deficit-reduction, predicting that Democrats would abandon the measure's primary funding mechanisms when seniors begin to feel the pinch of Medicare cuts, or when union families fall victim to a new 40 percent tax on the most generous insurance policies set to take effect in 2018. If those and other politically painful provisions were removed, the CBO said, the measure would increase deficits.

The decision capped an ongoing discussion on whether to use a so-called "deem and pass" strategy that would allow House members to approve the Senate version of health care bill without an actual vote before casting votes on a second "fix-it" resolution, known as reconciliation.

I truly believe this was the result of all of the calls and emails that the House members received from people who were letting them know that this is not what the people they represent want. Still a lot to happen but at least the Dem's realized that the American people were aware of what was happening and that there would be a price to pay.......Bill

This approach appears unconstitutional. Article I, Section 7 clearly states that bills cannot be presented to the president for signature unless they have been approved by both houses of Congress in the same form. If the House approves the Senate bill in the same legislation by which it approves changes to the Senate bill, it will fail that requirement.

Rules Committee meeting descends into chaos | Washington Examiner

The problem is the sequence. Can the House vote to amend something that isn't the law, as the Senate bill will not be law before the president's signature? The Rules Committee meeting turned into mass confusion when Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman said, "We're not going to 'deem' the bill passed. We're going to pass the Senate bill…I would be against the idea of 'deeming' something -- we either pass it or we don't."

To Republican ears, that sounded as if Waxman was speaking out in support of a direct vote on the Senate plan. "I hope we're making news here," said Republican Rep. Joe Barton. If so, Barton added, "Praise the Lord!" Other Democrats jumped in to say that no, there would not be a direct vote on the Senate bill.
